They are both great cameras. I don't think you can go wrong.
The Z7 has built-in image stabilization, so if you shoot a lot of hand-held at 1/80, then the Z7 might be a better pick. The Z7 also has faster "live view" (video) focus. The D850 video focus is pretty good, but the Z7 is better for video.
Still, the D850 has a batter "camera" autofocus system, particularly in low light. (The Z7 also can't use the AF assist light on Nikon flashes.) If you use a lot of 3D tracking, then go with the D850. (Don't be fooled by the faster processor in the Z7, the D850 is still one of the best tracking cameras you can buy.)
I would say that most people will be happier with the D850 unless you shoot a ton of video.
If you haven't held either of them, do so, that's one reason I took the D850 vs a mirrorless system. I liked the heft of a DSLR a LOT more than the ultralight, almost-flimsy feel of a mirrorless when I was looking at a new camera last summer. To me it felt like a point-n-shoot with a big lens. I wasn't a fan.
The D850 is generally a better "camera" but the Z7 is known for significantly improved video capabilities. Otherwise it's kind of a wash until you get to the 3D tracking and autofocus and low-light handling of the D850 at which point the D850 wins.
Throw us a bone - what do you want it for?

Thanks to everybody else for your opinions it is a lot of money that I am going to spend. Just needed some good feedback.
You need to ask a good question to get good answers! I agree with f8lee!

I suggest everyone go back and read all the replies. I find them embarrassing.
Do you find them all *equally* embarrassing?
Thank You for the info. I have a D750. I use it mainly for out door/landscapes. Also some portraits. I am used to stander SLR but wanted higher meg/ I didn't know about the hype on the Z7 and don't live where I can put my hands on Z7. Plus new lenses or adapter for the lens I already have.

It's all about the viewfinder. If you like the EVF then the Z7 is better. If you like the reflex viewfinder than the D850 is better. Otherwise they are about the same in my opinion.

Thanks for clartifying. You quoted my post but were apparently referring to another.
I noticed the irony of you telling the op that he was the one that should show more respect.

Z7 or D850
Canon 5D Mark Four / Canon EOS R
Except for the reason I switched to the Z7, weight, the 850 with 14-24 and 24-70 lenses is 6.61 lbs the Z7 with 14-30 and 24-70 is 3.49 lbs. I actually had the 810 and between it an the lenses my backpack weighed in at 22lbs; my current gear is 10.5lbs and at 71yrs there were places I simply could not go with former set-up.

I can not speak for D850 or Z7 but I had a D750 and currently use a Z6 and D500. I like my Z6 and 24-70 F/4 lens but I have to use adapter for my other F lenses that rendered the weight differences to nothing. Nevertheless, I like the compactness of the Z6 and video recording with IBIS system. I use Z6 mainly for landscapes and D500 for birds in flight. I would buy both Z7 and D850 if I had the funds. I will go with the D850 if I have to select only one camera that is more versatile, BIF in this case.
The replies are not embarrassing. They are enlightening.
Outright anger for the disrespect they feel from the post.

Why hasn't anyone brought up the fact that the OP has not responded with additional information regarding their priorities, equipment, type of shooting, ....? One thing is clear...so far: The OP has no interest in making this decision and has posted to elicit reactions.
