My business card says "Author and Recovering Photojournalist." That's because when, in 1984, I got full custody of my daughter, I had to choose between constant travel and acting like a worthy single parent. I chose parent and have never regretted it. My next profession, and my current gig at age 77, is writing books. Anyone interested in that: go to Amazon.com, choose Books and type in Marvin J. Wolf for a full list.
Meanwhile, while I sold all my gear in the film era, I never stopped shooting. My training was on-the-job as an Army combat photographer with the First Air Cavalry Division in Vietnam, 1965-66. At the end of that tour, which I started as a PFC and finished as a buck sergeant, I was offered a direct appointment to second lieutenant, accepted and spent another eight years on active duty. Returning to civilian life in 1974, I did three years in corporate communications, then set out on my own in March 1978. My photo work has appeared all over the world. These days my everyday camera is my Samsung G7 cellphone, but I also have a Nikon P7000, now an antique, but still a solid performer. I chose this for its old-fashioned viewfinder, which allows me to work quickly even in bright sunlight. Three years ago I sold my home of 31 years in Los Angeles, and moved to Asheville, North Carolina, where the air is clear and doesn't shake much, the water is tasty (50 craft breweries in town) and I have fallen in love with our green-covered mountains and blue ridges at sunrise and sunset.

Welcome Marvin. Combat Photogs always have great stories to tell. My dad was on Iwo Jima as a Marine combat photographer and also in China - the stories are filtered but still interesting.
