Best macro lenses for Nikon D5600

I am interested in taking more macro shots of flowers, insects, etc. What lenses are best for a Nikon D5600? Are there any teleconverters that can work?

Hard to go wrong with any the modern 90mm to 105mm f2.8 macro lenses but my first choice would be the Nikon 105mm f2.8:

Dr Joe, I use a Nikon Micro Nikkor 105 2.8 and a Nikon Micro Nikkor 200 MM F4 IF ED. 105 for flowers and 200 for insects that can get spoofed by being too close. Naturally you can use the 200MM for flowers. The tradeoff is weight and distance from subject. I am not a fan of teleconverters due to image degradation. Welcome to the forum.

Tokina makes a highly recommended 100mm macro that is reasonably priced. Check it out. I love mine.

The OP has a D5600. I don't believe that camera has an internal autofocus motor; does the Tokina you recommend have a focus motor?

Take a look at the Nikon 85mm f/3.5 DX macro lens. Since it's a DX lens it's smaller and lighter than full frame macro lenses. It will balance better on your DX format D5600. It has vibration reduction which helps a lot when hand holding the camera. I use one on my D7000. It's a very good lens.

I love my Nikon 85 mm. I didn't get the 105 because it is so much heavier than the 85. I don't use a tripod and I like to hike with it or just walk around a garden. It's light and portable for how I like to take macro. Image quality is great.

If your camera can work with an old 105mm 2.8 Nikon Micro lens that would be my first choice.

check out the tokina 100mm. Far le$$ than the Nikon lens, and I've had good luck with it on a crop sensor D7000.
