It is mind boggling to think about the early settlers crossing this rugged terrain by wagon train. While in Idaho recently, I saw areas of the Oregon Trail. None of these crossings was easy! I glad you included the plaque. It is quite an interesting story and you captured the area very well.
I have an incredible story of a great .... grandmother who nearly suffered a similar fate.
Her brother remembers her (The oldest) going to the stream to get water and noticed the tracks in the snow were red. He later writes he realized that this was blood from his older sisters bare feet being cut in the frozen snow and bleeding as she got them water.
