Amen.

I wish the UHH moderators would cull the group of bullies such as Facebook group moderators do.

They each offered a valid, on-point response. Where was the condescension?

Ahhhh. Maybe Teacher22's post you referred to was meant to be on (start) a new thread, not as a response in this thread...

For me somewhere not in the USA. Asia is good. Europe is OK. People in Asia may or may not like you take their pictures but never think that you're up to no good. While in the USA taking pictures of people in the streets many people think you're are up to something not good.

I probably shouldn’t express my thoughts on this as I’ve been drawn and quartered on here many times for doing so, but I must defend Teacher22. I did not read Teacher22’s second post as a response to either of the responses posted immediately after his/her initial one. I saw Teacher22’s second post in this thread as either an expansion or explanation of the fear expressed in the first post. And in support of that, I can say I have seen the same thing as expressed in that post numerous times myself. But it didn’t take long for some folks to open up with both barrels onto the Teacher, chastising and vilifying her/him for what was an expression of apprehension, which perfectly illustrated the point he/she made.

I think he was referring back to his original post, in which he said "dissertations" and "crass comments" were unwelcome. Can't say I disagree. I don't think he was referring to the two people who posted before he wrote his addendum.

I would like to do street photography as a I live in New York City. But I'm a little afraid of the negative experiences by other unsuspecting people walking around. I'm afraid people will become hostile. So I haven't ventured there.

Having been all over brooklyn when I was working, and without a camera, the opportunities are limitless. Just go and do it.As I am sure you know, the City is one of the most friendly, curteous (SP?) big cities in the country. Street photography has actually become easier since the cell phone. "cameras" are every where. As a result "strangers" are more used to being "on camera" Just do it.

I understand the common definition of "street photography."
I lived in NY early in my life and street shot all the time.
I find everything is fair game if handled with the right approach.
And sometimes I just limit myself to give privacy.
Examples: I visited The British Museum in London and went
for a light lunch in a chinese restaurant down the block. This
Budhist monk was very important to the chinese staff. They
were treating him with reverence. I had my camera on the
table as they had their private moments with him. I stopped
at one shot and decided their was no way I was going to shoot this.
I was on a cloudy beach in Mexico walking and these 2 girls
were driving the guys crazy for them at a concert. Shot 2 shots
and left this scene.
So what does this have to do with "street photography"?
Everything is street photography.
Shooting the world forces us to make decisions on what is right
and what is to be private. I am trying here to add a twist to
posts with some thoughtful experiences I've had
and decided to pass. Saw a potential problem.
We were at friends pool party a very diversified multicultural group.
my friend asked me to take some family pictures. What it started to
look like for me was an editorial story of how different our
country is today. Florida is a prime example.
Shooting a running festival I encouraged this marathoner
to do the tough guy competitor role and he did. This was a job.
This would be the most interesting visual the gentlemen in the
ocean sitting like a child is a NFL football player. It was a private
moment for him. And would never reveal his name or face.
The world and your life is the street.
PS did not post process the B&W's left them alone.

I appreciate the good advice. As for trying to offend people, I do my best not to. I rarely use my flash so as not to trigger the unwelcome negative responses. I am more inclined to photograph in venues that photography is welcome. Living in NY for 58 years, I try to stay away from many hazards to my being a photographer. I keep my camera in my bag until ready. I quickly replace it when done. I am usually scanning the environment very closely and doing my best to avoid unwelcome people in the shots. Thanks again for the great advice. Please wish me luck!
Happy Shooting

Sorry, I, and many others, did not take it as referring to or augmenting the first post,
but in reference to the second two posts. Or, completely out of context because I could not see an association to anything.

However, there are many instances where those referenced communications attributes are used when they should not.

I don’t need a dissertation or crass comments, just good world places to do street work.

Cuba was fun. A lot of the people asked me to take their photo.

Wow, not one of the previous two I comments were negative. They were simply answers to your question.... There is a word or two for went you just did. Jerk, and troll. You just succeeded at both. The two you offended are very good people, you are not so nice, or VERY CONFUSED.

I have found swap meets to be rich with photographic
opportunities. People and their stuff provides a chance
to talk and take photos. Most will not object.
