The most beautiful sound you will ever hear
Doesn't print very well think it might be because of the low resolution. Too bad.
I'm a Vietnam veteran. Thanks.

Although I wasn't there - I flew in Hueys (Martindale) with many CW3, CW4 who were.
They could fly circles around stuff you wouldn't believe - with their eyes closed.

The airliner that brought us home everyone kept saying welcome.
Then almost no one except other vets said it. At least I ran into very few of the other people who insulted etc.
Could have been because the university I attended 25% of the full time students were Vietnam Veterans and this was far enough back that a fair % of the professors were WW II and Korea vets, esp among the senior faculty and department admin types.
Thanks hueydriver, had my turn in them as well.
Oh yes, a very distinctive sound indeed, especially if you are wounded!
I always turn to the sound of a thump, thump Huey. In theater 1966 - 1967. I still fly the black POW-MIA flag. Welcome Home !!!
I was at An Khe in 1969 and we had a medivac hospital in our compound so we heard that sound around the clock. I have never forgotten that sound and the fact that everytime I heard it I knew someone had been rescued from a bad situation, but did not know if they would live or die. That was a sound thousands heard as a life saver.
Wasn't in Nam, but was stationed at Ft Rucker.
Nothing quite like that sound..
Whop, whop, wopp!! One of the most memorable (and anticipated!!!) sounds of Nam. I still stop and look up when I hear it and remember those many flights in and out of bad juju!
