It is really only a problem with Nikon. Don't buy Nikon gear on eBay unless you check out the serial number first.

There are many dealers that are not on Ebay who sell so called grey market items.

I purchased a Nikon on Ebay that did not have a US manufacturer's warranty. I was concerned that if I ever had a problem, I could not get it repaired as some people said on this site. I did have an issue though and they repaired it with no problem. Ask the seller what they suggest. You might want to ask for the serial number and go to Nikon's site to see if they'll repair it.

I know of others with the same experience. Problems can arise when some parts are needed from the manufacturer to complete a repair.

Nikon only honors their warranty to those cameras that have been a genuine import into this country. If they will supply parts for cameras bought abroad for other repair stations that I do not know.

My point was not clear. There is no guarantee of US items being sold at any location.

When I purchase on eBay I ask if the item is made for the American market. I've had no problem in having Canon do repairs.

From what I understand the major manufacturers (e.g. Canon, Nikon, etc.) will only repair equipment that was purchased in the country it was originally destined for. If I purchase used camera equipment from overseas through eBay and at some point in the future it needs repairs, am I out of luck or are there ways to get it repaired?
Thank you in advance for your help - I really appreciate it.
