11 individual vertical pics, stacked together on Photoshop. The idea is to have everything in focus.
(The ship model is the USS "Rattlesnake" I am currently building.)

Thomas

Excellent, even better on download. What are the details of how you did it?

Very nice job. Looks sharp from stem to stern. What did you use to process it?

There are numerous instructions on how to do it on the internet, e.g. here:
https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=focus+stacking&view=detail&mid=075BB9F45907DE70B23A075BB9F45907DE70B23A&FORM=VIRE

Basically, what you need is one of the newer versions of Photoshop, a SLR digital camera (old Nikon D200 in my case) and a tripod.
I didn't have and didn't use a Lightroom. And also, I didn't use one of those fancy and expensive wireless shutter releases. Just a self timer set to 5 sec. delay. No macro lens either, just a standard kit lens.

I shot all 11 pics with an Aperture priority, set to max. value (in my case it was 25) to get max. depth of field camera provided. Started with focusing on a detail closest to the camera and with each subsequent pic manually focused a bit further away. Untill I had covered the entire model.
Since I didn't use a flash, the shutter time had to be long - about several seconds for each pic - hence the tripod. I shot all pics in RAW and post processed them with a Nikon Capture RAW software and saved each in TIFF.
In the end I imported them into the Photoshop and proceeded, following the instructions online - see above.

When all pics were nicely stacked, I converted the final pic into JPEG and saved it to my computer.

The rule is, the more pics you take, the better the final photo will be. Also, you cannot change the zoom setting for any pic, or change its composition. All have to show the same area in each frame.

Hope this helps,

Thomas

The detail is amazing. I pulled them in even more and you could create macros of any area. As a model builder, you also have quite a talent.

Beautiful photos and models. Perfect subjects for focus stacking. Can I ask the name of the ship in the background?
