Have fun, from the Toyota Tacoma truck owners- i.e. Hog support vehicles.
Hey..other then being super hot, this time of the year.. Plus it being a holiday weekend.. It may be pretty crowded.
So the security may be more tightened.. I was there in June this year and it wasnt so bad.. The walk up the skywalk or skybridge , whatever you wanna call it wasnt really bad... I am including a few shots that I took.. That i have posted here before... Enjoy your trip.
used a Nikkor 16-85 zoom at the 16mm

So it would appear that you will be able to take your dam pictures. Lol
Many thanks to all the Hoggers who are chiming in....we're going to have a great time, and I'll post some shots next week....of course with all the money we're going to win, I may need advice on all the new gear I'll be buying 8-)
Try going to the Mormon Temple (Church of Jeus Christ of Latter Day Saints) on the east side of town. If you stand in the road on the south side of the building, you can get an very interesting shot of the strip as well as down town with a wide angle, the Temple also is incredibly gorgeous. Best wishes, WLS
Can't wait to see some of your pictures! Have a great time!

Those are a couple of best shots I've seen of the dam. Nice work!
Yes, I did check with the folks that run the tours at the dam, and they verified that you can walk out onto the bridge and get some good views and photos of the dam...that'll be cool, and we'll go on a tour for some de rigeur giant turbine shots inside too....can't wait (plus we may indulge in a bit of gaming as well) 8-)

I love the slots but, even more, I love to people-watch when I am in Vegas!

Blackjack and Hold 'Em for me!
A couple years ago, I visited Hoover Dam. It now has a parking structure near the dam entrance. You do have to pass through a security check similar to that at the airport, before entering the dam structure proper. Leave your pocketknife in the car. You may wish to take the dam tour -- very interesting, with photo ops.
While in LV, consider visiting Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. You may see its dramatic natural beauty fairly close up from the road and the viewpoints. A place to visit if you like landscape photography.

Good morning HOGS,
I will be going to Vega$ Friday morning, driving up from L.A....planning to arrive early in the morning so I can visit Hoover Dam with some good light so I can get some photos of the dam and the new bridge there.....but a thought occurred....with security such a concern lately, are you even allowed to stop for photos or must all vehicles just keep on moving through? Any suggestions re that spot or some others over the weekend while I stay out of the casinos during the day?
All the best to the HOGS

Little known facts about Las Vegas. I truley did not know this. Las Vegas Churches accept gambling chips?? This may come as a surprise to those of you not living in Las Vegas, but there are more catholic churches than casinos. Not surprising, some worshipers at sundy services will give casino chips rather than cash when the basket is passed. Since they get chips from many different casinos, the churches have devised a method to collect the offerings. The churches send all there collected chips to a nearby Franciscan Monastery for sorting and then the chips are taken to the casinos of origin and cashed in. This is done by the CHIP MONKS.
