Thx you all for recommendations on a new printer. The Canon Pro-100 was the final selection. Print Quality vs Price Point vs Cost of Ink vs Quality Control vs printer construction all matrix'd for my current needs. Thxs again! PS...The unit is solidly built and is as heavy as you all advised!

And if you catch a Canon sponsored Sale, it can cost only $99.00 (if they are still doing those sales), at B&H, Adorama, etc.

They give the printer away at cost, in order to sell the grossly overpriced inks

Yes, I (we all) know that. All brands and printers have grossly over priced ink.

The USA MSRP for the PIXMA PRO-100 is $699.99. The USA MSRP for my other older Canon printer PIXMA PRO-9000 was $799.99. I don't imagine anyone pays those prices. I believe the PRO-100 usually goes for $199.99 in the USA.
I bought this printer a couple of years ago, i used third party ink. Paid a net $99 for it after rebates, After a 14 months, the first one failed, the bloe ink cartridge slot stopped recognizing cartridges, even after trying a canon cartridge. still no luck. I called Canon, we tried everything, re starting, reloading the driver, cleaning the contacts with alcohol etc. s0 checked B&H, and they were running the special again, but while talking to Canon the said they would honor the 12month warranty, even though it was 14 months old, so they sent me a refurbished printer, and I sent the broken one back, they paid shipping. I was happy as could be, and this replacement came complete with a full set of ink cartridges.
So cudos to Canon. Now thinking about the sale price. A new set of ink cartridges costs, $115, So when you need to get new cartridges, wait for the sale on a new printer, which gives you a new printer with a full warranty, se third paer ink, and see if Canon will replace for free with more ink.
Hurry up, B&H is running their special rebate for the Canon Pro 100 printer, regular price $349, now $99 with $259 rebate Sale ends April 30, and the are closed Today and tomorrow so better Sunday or Monday.
WhenI bought mine. Final cost after rebate and free paper was $29
Sale end April 30. $349, $250 rebate. B&H
Don’t forget to download Canon Print Studio Pro. It’s free and allows you to fine tune the print quality as to color and brightness. If you use LR, as I do, once downloaded you’ll find it in the file drop down as “plug in extras”.
If you are concerned about ink costs, and not longevity, Precision Color has the best 3rd party ink refillable inks. They will be coming out with an updated set very soon. Ink Products has a CIS system that works, and is $140 with an initial filling. They can be refilled with PC inks. PC inks has the closest color match to OEM, but no 3rd party inks have the longevity. The LD inks are ok, but color match is not great.
