It's amazing how quickly we can move packages and track them with electronics. My Fuji 27mm lens arrived in Cinncinatti, OH from Hong Kong at 3:25 AM today, and I am scheduled to receive it in a few hours. The seller didn't charge for shipping.
Been experiencing delays with Amazon deliveries lately, think they are pushing the envelope using private contractor delivery personal and their private vehicles. The electronic tracking update info sometimes shows some very inefficient routing of my packages. Several packages seem to have gone home early with the drivers - several of my packages have spent the night in residential areas and delivered a day or two later than specified by the first tracking info.
Complained one time when I had to accept a replacement for a lost package at a slightly higher price - received a $20 credit on my next order. Amazon does try...

I occasionally have the same tracking issue with all carriers and USPS...nothing to do with Amazon.
I rarely have anything shipped like expensive items, mostly clothes, jackets and not delicate equipment. I like to go into a store to fondle what I intend to buy. But a couple of times I had gone into a big name store to buy something the customer service was deplorable. So I ended shopping around and went to the big name internet retailers. The days of brick and mortar stores will soon come to an end if retailers don't get wise.

I keep trying to fondle in stores, the security guard throws me out.
A good rule of thumb when it comes to fondling in stores, don't let anyone notice you playing with toys.

I sometimes think that international shipping must be government-subsidised or something in China... I have bought some fossils and small mineral samples for only a few bucks, with free shipping. No way could the seller be making a profit on the items...

I rarely complain about mail service or package delivery, I know our systems are a modern marvel. That said, several weeks back my wife ordered a very nice wallet from a high end handbag outlet located in Jacksonville Fl (several hour drive from my home). It was a birthday gift for a relative. Like many retailers these days, it is a USP-to-USPS handoff shipment.
The package made the trip from Jacksonville to Rockledge Fl (35 miles from our home) in one day, and then was supposed to be handed off to the USPS. Well, several days go by, then the weekend, then Monday, still no package....come Tuesday she inquired with UPS as to why the package has never left Rockledge (according to their tracking) and never went into the USPS system. After several hours of back n forth banter and no real answer, the tracking was updated later in the day, as the package had arrived and been recorded in....wait for it.......... Las Vegas!!!! We've been watching it now as it travels from hub to hub, Vegas, to Utah, then Colorado, and this morning it stopped off in Kansas City. May get here by next week....... This time UPS gets the prize. It missed the birthday party.
I was going to rewrite the words to that old Ricky Nelson song "Travelin Man" , and have one of my favorites, Weird Al Yankovic record it for us, and dedicate it to UPS !!!!
