This discussion is disturbing. :-) I leave my glasses on. Never thought otherwise. But now I need to think about it. And I will need to check whether I use my bi-focals or not!

Jerry's posting about eyeglass retainers raises a question. Do you wear your glasses or take them off, when looking through your camera's viewfinder? I was setting up my wife's Sony HX-400V and she complained the view was blurred, looking through the viewfinder.

"That's because I need to adjust the diopter for you with your glasses on." I said. "But I take my glasses off when I take pictures." she replied.

That made me think a bit...I have my D5500 set up so the view is clear when I'm wearing my glasses which I've always kept on when photographing. Mostly I keep them on out of fear of losing them if I put them down somewhere for the 2 to 3 minutes my memory's good for. Is this a bad technique or simply a personal preference? How about the rest of you? Why? If it's a bad idea to keep them on, I'll go with Jerry's retainer.

I leave mine on. Being very nearsighted, I can't just adjust the diopter for no glasses. I tried contacts for a few years, but am now back to my glasses.

I usually shoot without them as my view finder has it's diopter adjusted for my right eye and I only wear glasses for reading basically. I do sometimes struggle with the playbacks on the little 3" screen on the camera's backend.....so I am never really sure how good the take is until I get it on the monitor and crop it up a bit for a closer examination.

That level of insecurity has prompted me over time to take extra shots and even bracket some of those as well as a precaution and I am okay with that. I am sure most of you have a far better way of getting things done but I am old now and quite lazy and would rather bitch about my self-inflicted mediocrity.....you know who you are ...don't you !

It is was it is....Happy Shooting GUYS

I wear my Dollar Tree (yes, $1.00) readers (+2.5) far down on my nose and out of the way when shooting and just push them up closer to my eyes to read the camera menu or to chimp. The lens in a wireframe measures 3/4" high. At $1.00 each, I always have backups in my camera bag, cars, office and all around the house. Plus I have a stash of them in a drawer. Yes, I was a Boy Scout, grin. Always "Be prepared".

“You mean the ones you’re wearing?”, is an answer I sometimes get to “Have you seen my glasses?”

On photo shoots I use Hoodman frames that have flip up lenses so I shoot with the lens flipped up and flip it down when I have to view info on the camera - works well for me. I am not even sure they sell them anymore.

I shoot with my glasses on. I've had glasses for 65 years and I'm more comfortable with them on. I go in today to get new lenses after cataract surgery and I could probably get just reading glasses but I'd rather not have to have glasses I have to take off and on except at bedtime or to take a shower.

The optometrist will be happy to prescribe, and the opticien happy to deliver, glasses with correction in the reading area and clear "glass" (more likely plastic) in the top or distance area.
I had that done, I can drive without glasses, but afterwards can't find them back. So the clear upper portion was the ideal solution for me.
As to photography, I keep my glasses on, but have no idea which on of the three lens sections I look through then...

My digital cameras have diopter adjustments so I remove my glasses to use the viewfinder. I like to be able to see the entire viewfinder by moving just my eyes and not my head. But if I have to make an adjustment, I have put them back on as I can’t read the screen without them. I’m thinking of trying out contacts to get rid of the glasses altogether.

I normally leave mine on except when very bright and getting reflection.

Progressives, here. I leave them on. On my face, I know where they are.
