On my To Do List: I would like to take some photos of the Herons on North Brother Island, Bronx Bay New York. Has anyone else done this and has experience with getting there? Any suggestions, please?
YNY
Loc: Youngstown NY (Western New York)
Google North Brother Island NY. I believe access is only boat. No bridge that I can see on maps. The island is off limits to visitors without a rarely granted permit for compelling scientific and academic purposes. It is off limits between March 21 and September 21 to protect nesting birds.

Thank you for the information. I shall jump on this bold chance to take on a challenge. What good are the photographs done by someone else who has done them before. Are there any interested participants?
Plenty of herons in Texas & Louisiana. I doubt there are any restrictions in seeing them. Liberal have not taken over here yet.
I'll talk to the little woman. Perhaps my wife and I could do a photo trek. I'll keep that in mind.
I have about 3 varieties in my subdivision park. Marsh areas of East Texas & all of the Gulf are highly populated.
I'll set up an itinerary for a one week shoot.

Loc: Callawassie Island, SC
No need to travel so far! SC is abundant with wildlife. The Great Egrets are nesting now. Photo taken from my backyard. The "Snowy's" are active, too!
How close do you want to get? The State of Washington has Blues in abundance. Also white Egrets
Thank you for the suggestion. As for photographing herons and egrets it seems there are more fruitful places to observe and photograph these beautiful delights of nature. I thank all who have given information to begin an interesting itinerary to a unique venue.
As for North Brother Island, I shall concentrate my efforts to photograph Urban Decay amidst a growing and prosperous metropolis. (I remember a computer game called "Sim City"). I already have some great yellow, green, ND and CPL filters. I have a good long zoom prime lens (100-300mm) and a nice all purpose Tilt Shift Lens.
Happy Shooting!

You could do a day trip to Brig in New Jersey a little north of Atlantic City. Lots of herons and other migratory birds as well.
The World Series of Birding is coming up in a few weeks (Saturday, May 11 12:01 am to midnight) There will be a lot of experts on hand.
Thank you for the advice and suggestion. I really do appreciate the input for all fellow photographers

If you are 62 or older and do not have a Lifetime National Park Senior Pass, you can get one while at Brig. There is an entry fee, but it is covered by the pass (or the annual duck stamp) .
