This is the story of my life. As a result, I have duplicates of almost everything.

I have successfully used this principle for many years.

When I was a grad student we were never able to find the right size screwdriver when we needed it. In frustration, one grad student ordered from some cheap tool flyer a gross of screwdrivers.

After 2 weeks we were back to the original condition. We finally decided that the sun emits anti-screwdriver particles which annihilate any screwdrivers they hit.

Same effect applies to socks, although strangely only to one sock out of a pair. Something to do with the dual particle/wave nature of light, probably.

And sometimes the Original of the duplicate hasn't been used!

Works almost every time, especially with pocket knives.

I've had socks disappear for a week or so, and up to eight months.
I keep the ones left behind for a time knowing that if I wait long
enough the missing mate will just re-appear. Have a solo waiting
but that has only been three months. Time will tell.

Was the next one on the 'Wash the car and Rain paradox'. For the last 20 years or so I've washed my car in the rain. I prefer it if it gets good overnight soaking, then wash it whilst raining, and hope it'll continue raining for another 30 minutes. I get some strange looks but 20 minutes to do an OUTBACK seems good to me and a rinse with the purest water ensures the cleanest car around these parts.

Rain isn't always the purest water.

Basically rain is formed when water condenses around a "nucleating particle", generally dust in the atmosphere, but it could be something else.

I'll give you that, but it's a whole lot better than what's coming out of our taps at the moment. We've got very soft water and unless all of it it is time consumingly leathered off we get soft water deposits all over the car.

Don't understand this. I get "hard" water deposits in the bathroom and washing a car, but not "soft" water deposits. Only thing I can think soft water might deposit is insufficiently removed soap.
