I don't know what I did or how to switch it back. My "brushes" now are shown only as a small target rather than a circle showing the size. How do I go back?

There are no new questions on UHH. But I learned about it the same way as you

Geeeeze ....., I've struggled with that same problem for years. Can't believe it as simple as the caps lock key! Thanks Linda.
I've had this happen on occasion for no apparent reason, and closing and reopening PS solved the problem. I wasn't aware of the Caps Lock key issue so I'll try that next time, although I wouldn't think closing and reopening would affect that key.
There are 100's of obscure techniques in Photoshop and Lightroom. It's why I have had a love/hate tangle with Adobe for 20+ years. It is very powerful and useful software, but seems to be cobbled together by teams who don't communicate well.
If you really want an adventure into mind-warping, undocumented hell, try the 3D tools in Photoshop.
...there's one other, similar, condition that I run into on occasion; your tool (usually clone stamp or healing brush) stops working for no apparent reason. Something is selected that you can't see...control/command D to de-select and you're back!

If you have trouble remembering the keyboard shortcuts in Photoshop, Edit -> Keyboard shortcuts will give you a dialog listing all the shortcuts. They are listed by function so if you want to perform a function, find it on the dialog and it will tell you what shortcut to use. It's not so easy going the other way. If you have a shortcut it won't be that easy to look up what it does.
However, you can edit the shortcuts using that dialog. If there's a shortcut you don't want to use but somehow you hit that key combination accidentally occasionally, you can turn it off. If there's something you want to do frequently you can sometimes create a new keyboard shortcut for it (or reassign another shortcut to it).
At the right there's a column of buttons. The bottom one is "Summarize" You can use it to create a .htm file which you can feed into your web browser to get a list of keywords.
PS: there's a keyboard shortcut for the keyboard shortcut dialog (if you have enough fingers). (Win) Alt-Shift-Ctrl-K
Ten years and no love and I find the answer here. Good news!
I keep a Word file for Photoshop (really Elements) and Windows 10 that has all hints from UHH and experiments. More reliable than my memory at 72.
