I used PSE14 on Windows 7 Home without any problems. I don't know what your friend likes to do with his photos, but there are differences between 7 and 14. I make that assumption because I used to use Elements 9 and the interface is different. I mostly work in Expert mode but have to go to Guided mode to do HDR, a difference between PSE9 and 14.

Do be careful to say Photoshop Elements 7 or PSE7. There was Photoshop 1 -7, before the later Photoshop CS1-6 Series. Ps1 was from 1990?

Thanks lamiaceae. Duly advised; I will be careful in the future. Thanks.

This has probably already been suggested above, but assuming he still has the serial number and CDs, you may want to uninstall PSE 7 and then reinstall it. I am assuming that everything else is working fine on his computer.

Back to your original question, I can appreciate his concern about not wanting to start on a new learning curve. I have had several clients with the same concerns. If you have to end up upgrading PSE, I would try to find a copy of PSE 10. PSE 11 introduced the new look and feel, which would require a fair amount of getting use to on his part. There is no doubt that ultimately the new look and features would probably provide a better experience all the way around, but it would take some time and effort on his part.

The final thought I have is if he upgraded to PSE 10, he would have three years of improvements in the new version. If your friend uses the Organizer, newer versions would automatically upgrade the Catalog to run on the new version.

I am assuming that someone can suggest where to buy a valid copy of older versions of PSE.

Good luck,

Hi don26812. Thanks for the detail. Yes we will continue to search for the original CDs. Your info regarding major interface changes in Photoshop Elements starting with version 11 is very helpful. Thanks so much. If we cannot find the original version 7 CDs, potentially a valid version 10 can be found. Perhaps if Adobe understands that newer versions could not be understood nor used, they could find a version 10 that I could buy for my friend. Thanks again.

Just to add my situation, I have Windows 7 Home Premium and Photoshop 7.0. They are working fine. Of course, Windows 7 will be no longer supported soon.

Hello All. A friend of mine has used Photoshop Elements 7 for a very long time. The PC operating system is Windows 7 Home with Service Pack 1. Photoshop 7 now refuses to open despite all suggested attempts to remedy. My friend is in his 80's with considerable memory and cognitive concerns BUT LOVES to work on his pictures / images. He would need to use the same -or very similar - Photoshop interface / procedures and not get confused learning new ones. I was considering getting a new copy of Photoshop Elements and installing after uninstalling his previous version. But I do not know if Version 7 has stopped being supported and that is why it no longer works. If so, what is the best replacement version that is most similar to what he had? ... and will work on older computer running Windows 7 Home with Service Pack 1? Yes, I will contact Adobe but first thought the practical experience of Hedgehogs might give more direction to the search. Thanks for your thoughts.

I don't think that Windows 7 is no longer supported, that is what I have on two of my computers and they are updated on a regular basis (automatically). One is running CS 5 ext., the other PS CC 2019, both programs are running just fine on Windows 7, so Elements, (whatever version) should too!

I run Elements 9 and 11 on Windows 7 and Windows 10 without problems.
I assume you have deleted and reinstalled Elements.
I have a memory stick that says it is write protected in one computer and works as it should in another.
Perhaps it is something about your computer, not Elements.
Good luck .

Don, I mostly agree with you; I mostly use PSE 14,but I still have PSE 10 on my computer and use it when I want to print a 11x 14 on my Canon 9000 printer. Canon doesn't include that size paper, and V.10 is easier to use with my workaround than PSE 14!

And I agree PSE7 should run on a Win 7 PC. I have PSE9 on my wife's Win 10 Pro PC and it runs. We had PSE7 running on her PC before as well when it was running Win 7 Pro. I only use it for a few things I have not figured out how to do with Ps CS6 on my Win 10 PC. I can't even say how well PSE9 does on her PC since I don't copy over Raw files to her PC directly from a camera.

Oh, yes. I too have a Canon PIXMA PRO 9000 Printer and things do get a bit tricky when using my Win 10 PC with Ps CS6. Canon never published Win 10 drivers for that older printer but most of the functions work using Win 7 drivers. I also have a PIXMA PRO 100 Printer a friend gave me. It has more features that work with Win 10 including WiFi. But I think the prints form the Pro 9000 are still slightly better. I've had to do some creative tricks for certain paper sizes as well.
