Thanks - been in Pttsburgh over 20 years and can't believe I just got out there !

That is the problem I also face.....train schedules....I've sat for hours waiting for trains to pass my favorite bridge.....then when I'm all packed up...ready to go home.....the next train zips by....LOL....TIMING is the key I guess. The trains in my area are Union Pacific and Amtrak, and since there are no crossings near the bridge, there is NO distant horn blast to give a heads up.

Nice series, however #3,taken while standing between the rails, is not the safest thing to do.

Normally I would agree with you but since I was wearing my high visibility green jacket and was talking to one of the engineers of the train, at the time it was very safe ! The electronic signals and switches going into the yard were malfunctioning and he had to 'park' the train on the other side of the bridge and walk over the bridge to the switch. He was not real happy about it ! The train was just to the left of the bridge in that picture and fortunately just outside of the camera field of view.
Thanks for looking in. I actually have a shot of the engineer after he walked another 100 yards down the track and set the switch. I will try to post it later but here it is on GuruShots.

Probably not legal either. The whole right of way is private property.

Actually, there is no posted singage except at the bridge 'entrance' itself (and I did not cross the threshold). The access road to where I was standing comes directly off a city park and is about 40 feet long with no posted signs. I understand that the right-of-way is a private area but the requirement is that it must be posted. That being said, I make sure to follow the law and as evidenced by the company representative giving the ok, would not expect any legal issues.
I was also there the previous week and that time the local Rochester Borough police, while on a routine patrol, simply waved back to me after I waved to them. And had they told me get out, I would have respected their authority and not have come back. I always follow the rules - even when I disagree with them or think they are 'silly'. I find I get into less trouble that way !
Thanks for your observations - something everyone should keep in mind where legal considerations are explicit.

I may have a way in ... A coworker of mine has a brother who is an engineer for Norfolk Southern (part of consolidated railway) and she is going to see if I can get route schedules. The bridge is near a huge yard so I am hoping they have some sort of schedule for that particular yard.
Fingers crossed...
