I will be traveling to Croatia and Montenegro in May. I have a Canon EOS Mark IV. We will be both on the water and on land. I know the streets are narrow and crowded, but beautiful architecture. I have all Canon lenses. A 35mm, 50mm, 24-70mm, 24-105mm, 100-400mm and a 70-200mm. I will bring a tripod, but won't be using that on a daily walk around basis. Also traveling with family, so ease is important- but my equipment and photos are of primo importance! Any suggestions would be most helpful!

I travelled to Croatia and Montenegro a few years ago and tried to keep my equipment simple. I would say the 24-105 lens is great walk around choice. I also brought a small compact camera with a zoom lens that I could put in my poncho (rain) or handbag when I did not want to carry my Nikon and an 18-300 lens.

Chances are excellent that your 24-105 lens will take care of most of your subjects.

You didn't mention the versions or apertures. I'd been inclined to take only the 24-105 if the vII, otherwise, only the 24-70 if the f/2.8 II. If you really wanted to challenge yourself and add the fun of the challenge, take only the 35 and 50 as they would be perfect for indoors and the narrow spaces (the 35) of the towns and old cities. You'd only give up the details of distant subjects you could reach via 105mm. Unless you're planning for dawn or night shots, I'd skip the tripod and rely in the IS lens, if you went that way.

When I went to Zagreb I took a 28, 50 and 90mm. In a few cases, I wished for a wider lens in narrow street areas. The 24mm would be close. I now take a wider lens with me as well. A 21mm typically. I would take the 24-105 and a fast prime-35 or 50mm. I do not know the Canon system, but if you are looking to make a lens purchase, maybe a manual focus 15, 18 or similar ultrawide. I would skip the tripod.

Another vote for the 24-105 here.

I was just in Croatia and Slovenia, I have a Canon EOS (APS). Most of my pictures were taken with my kit lens 18-50. Some using my 55-250. We had great weather hope you get the same.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I will definitely bring my 24-105mm and probably my 50mm. I guess no need for a tripod. My Canon is a 5D MarkIV. Just returned from Vietnam and Cambodia where I switched off from the 24-105 and the 35mm and the 50mm. I had brought my 70-200mm but never used it.

I’d say the 24-105 and either the 35 or 50 prime. A monopod might serve you better unless you’re into night photography. Less is more.

You have it all covered except for a truly wide angle lens.
Get the 16-35mm f2.8L III and be done with it.
24 will not be wide enough in many situations, in my experience anyway.
If I were to want to carry less the 16-35mm, 24-105mm and the 100-400mm covers the spectrum very well and the 100-400 if the MII version will double very well as a near macro lens that none of your other lenses can quite do.
