I'm spending a few days in the Malheur and Klamath National Wildlife Refuges during the big spring waterfowl migration. Having lived in Oregon for over 30 years, this is only my second visit to either refuge. I was able to get a few shots today between continual heavy sleet and snow storms. It may be spring on the west side of the Cascades, but certainly not on the east side yet.
Heading over to the Malheur area and Steens mountains tomorrow. That's about as far from civilization as you can get these days. I'm hoping to locate one or more of the Kiger Mustang herds if the backcountry roads are passable.

Very nice set! You will be in some wonderful country, hope the roads are good and looking forward to more reports and photos.
A great set. Glad to see that we humans aren't the only ones suffering through rush hour traffic. Mahalo for sharing.
Nice. Good luck with the horses.

Appropriate title. They do remind me of the Long Island Expressway during rush hour (6am - 11am).
Thanks everyone for the nice comments.
I continued on to the Malheur refuge, but was disappointed. It was mostly dry. Given the heavy snow pack still on the Steens mountains, it must be slightly early for the melt to come down and water the refuge. I did make it a little ways into the Kiger Mustang wild horse management area, but the dirt roads were really wet. I pushed the 4WD through the mud pits as far as I dared, but on the way back out I had a group of 4 mustangs do a fast run by. Just enough time to jump out for a few quick shots, but nothing spectacular. It is beautiful country they live in, and I'll go back in a dryer season.
Nice photos! Especially the wild horses, which bring me back to camping and fishing there (near Steens Mountain) with my in-laws years ago. The horses would come right up to our tent at night.
