I did my time inPhang Rang and am proud to enjoy Veterans Day and Memorial Day I see no point in establishing a Vietnam Veterans Day. Take the money and spend on wives kids, and parents who lost someone to that stupid war .(During & after they came home.) The butt heads in Washington could pay the Agent Orange money out in lieu of a useless wall. Just saying!! Vietnam Day we dont need, all who were there saw enough to not want anymore. Remember those who gave ALL, above all.

In Maryland the first piece of legislation our current governor signed when he got into office was a veterans bill. Since about 2012 (I forget the exact year) March 30th is Welcome home Vietnam Veterans Day.

It's all over the news today!!! Not !!! Had an acquaintance this morning say "well there's no WWII day". A lot of us Viet Nam Veterans were met with angry protests when we returned. I was hit with a bag of runny feces at the Honolulu airport after spending 2 years there...YEAH I THINK WE DESERVE A MEMORIAL DAY...Thank you all that served during that dirty little(?) war that NOBODY wanted...….I am posting some photos of reflection honoring us and especially our fallen comrades.....Semper Fi (always faithful) to all Marines and all veterans of all the services.

Love the gorgeous egret! My husband served in the Navy during that war.

Just opened your post by chance. Your story brings back painful memories of the time, and I didn't personally suffer through them, just helplessly watched dumbfounded. Being a teacher on an Apache res at the time, I did not get drafted, but I lived those years expecting that to change at any moment. I even got called in along with a bus full of young Apaches for the battery of tests, and the Navy sure wanted to make me a pilot. No way was I running across the Canadian border like so many chicken$hits of the time, but I had neither the guts nor the commitment to that horrific conflict to volunteer. Daily news coverage of the time was WAY to effective for that!

By the time they shifted to the lottery, I missed out by being 1 year too old. And then I watched how my fellow Americans welcomed home our very best fellow Americans, and those were soul-wrenching months. It has always amazed me both that Jane Fonda survived righteous judgement and that huge numbers of ignorant, self-righteous, stay-at-home cowards escaped retribution for their ungodly behavior. In my eyes, that has always been the most amazing testament to the fortitude of our warriors, whether ready or reluctant.

Your great photos are the best story-telling set to go with your brief comments that I think I have ever encountered. Thanks for helping us all remember the hard stuff.

I was not in the service, however, I had 2 cousins that served in Vietnam. I have many friends who did serve in that awful hell hole. Thank you will never be enough, however, thank you one and all that have served our country and God Bless all of you! I know what we have because of you. Thank you once again.

Got me 60% after a 4 year fight that started when I was 69. Ride my Swift Boat through Agent Orange spray areas many times.

I agree. I spent most of my time between Long Bhin and the coast with both the 199th and 1st Cav. We all have memories and, at least for me, I don't need a special day to be reminded. I really don't understand, and am somewhat put off, using the title of this thread to promote bird pictures.

Didn't use the title to "promote bird pictures". Used the bird pictures as tribute (at least to me) for the veterans. Same thing as Veterans Day as a holiday and not a day to lament all Wars atrocities.I spent 2 tours 68/69/70 (tet) and NOT ONE DAY have I used those battles to gain any personal recognition or even name any of the many battles or places that I was. I do however salute and shake hands with Vietnam Veterans because of all the negative publicity that we got and the "crappy" reception that a lot of us got when we returned. So I say "welcome home" and am gonna make damn sure that I promote more of a tribute next year.

Soldiers who rode in air craft that carried A.O, that weren't even in Nam, have been affected by Agent Orange. Their children , also , have been affected, most often, by being born with Spinal bifida, and other maladies. I have so much respect for you vets.
