Thanks for the comment tshift…
I actually was at the last race that Sr. drove at CMS, also at that race my son and I had taken a pre-race pit tour and I was lucky enough to have gotten a quick photo of Dale Sr. as he was going over things with his pit crew. Unfortunately I no longer have that photo.
I will be 68 in July. My day moved from Kannapolis with my mom to find job in Florida. We went to races every Friday and Saturday. St. Petersburg on Friday nights and Tampa Saturday nights. I grew up a Ford fan. I didn't like Dale Sr. much at all he was always bumping my guys out of the way and beating my Fords. When that day came and he hit the wall I thought yea he is out of the way. And when they announced he had died I was no way he didn't hit that hard he couldn't be dead. You know what I cried my eyes out for two days. And every time I thought about him I teared up a little. I finally realized that it wasn't him I hated it was the Chevrolet he drove. I then really loved him for what he was and what he accomplished. It wasn't long after that I took Jr. as my favorite driver not just because of dad but what he could do and what a good man he was. Post more if you have them I love it. Thanks
