Just to see what I could get with a reversed 28mm onto my Canon 100mm I had a play with a common vegetable.

Can you guess what it is?

I'll have to admit I was surprised!

Don't know if you have done much with reverse, you will find that magnification is very high and hard to work with in the field... You might better enjoy a 50mm reversed on that 100mm lens, you will get 2X to 3X with a 50mm with the 28mm you are starting out at something like 3.6x and will have a hard time finding anything small enough to shoot.

Thanks Karl; sooner than you think! I've been doing macro for (essentially) about a day.... I think I've taken a grand total of about 100 macro shots in total. I'm a complete newbie at this!

Oh yes I agree completely on it being impossible to actually use. I was just curious to see what I could get. As soon as it warms up out there I'll be off looking for photogenic insects to immortalize. I'm currently just messing about with my gear to see what it can do.

No, not at all impossible to use, but not as practical as a 50mm reversed on that 100mm

Thanks Geff; I'll put a 50mm on and have another play. I absolutely cannot wait until the spring. I've never been so impatient for insects to start to appear!

if your 50mm is f/1.8 or faster you will notice much less vignetting and distortion towards the edges of the frame, also I don't know if you figured it out or not but as you focus what I am assuming is a 100mm macro lens that the magnification increases as your focus towards close focus... a couple of tidbits that it took me a little bit of time to figure out.

Not asparagus - think smaller. Much smaller.

The broccoli that we eat, is actually the unopened flowers of the plant. A broccoli head consists of scores of very small flowers. This is just a few unopened flowers.
