Between Bryce National Park and North Rim

I am looking for some photographic options. We are spending some time this summer to trek/photograph the Zion Narrows and then move on to Bryce NP. From there we are going to stay serveral days on the North Rim of GCNP.

We do have a full day to take in a location somewhere between Bryce and the North Rim. Any suggestions for a little visited but photographically unique location to spend this day?

Zion National park. Oops, is that the same as Zion Narrows? Check your map not much out of your way between Bryce and the Grand Canyon. Or perhaps Grand Staircase-Escalante?
Sounds like a great trip, wanna swing by Pittsburgh and pick me up on your way west? :)

Thanks for the suggestion. Would love to photograph the WAVE at Grand Staircase-Escalente. Still looking for other options. Likely taking a direct flight into Los Vegas for a night before driving to the national parks. Might pick up a night in Vegas before flying home. Plan to take in a ballgame at PNC park out your way this summer, too.

I haven't been to the staircase but have heard it it is breathtaking. The pictures I have seen were fabulous. Be careful in Vegas, you don't want to loose everything before you have even got on the road. LOL

Consider a stop at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. It is southeast of Zion and an easy side trip on the way to the North Rim. It is a somewhat overlooked location that offers some good photo opportunities. Google it and then check the images page to get an idea of what it offers.

A good resource book on the area: Photographing the Southwest Volume 1- A guide to the natural landmarks of Southern Utah by Laurent Martres. It is available on Amazon.

Lake Powell is a great spot
Try looking at map or national park sit.

1 1/2 hr drive north of Vegas (on your way to Zion) is an overlooked gem to photograph. Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada. Spent an entire day there a couple of years ago. There is a small "Wave" there which makes stunning shots. Be sure to take water as there is none available, if you stay for the sunset (highly recommend to be at the "Wave" for that), don't leave to soon, wait for the afterglow, and look over your shoulder. Wave is hard to find because it can't be seen from the road. This site will get you there. http://gosomewhereglorious.blogspot.ca/2012/01/fire-wave-valley-of-fire-nevada.html Happy shooting

BTW I second Pink Coral Sand Dunes. Be there just before sunset and experience the transformation.

Capital Reef is a national park that not many people know about. The road that goes to Bryce Canyon is Route 12 and it is one of the great scenic drives in our country. Route 12 is 120 miles long and when you get to the end you will be at the crossroads with Capital Reef just 10 miles down the road to the right. Capital Reef is an amazing place with canyons, amazing scenic areas, arches, old ruins, petroglyphs and astounding landscape. This park should not be missed.

A couple of ideas:

Cedar Breaks National Monument. This is located about 20-30 miles south and slightly east of Cedar, Utah. Easy to reach either going or coming from Bryce Canyon.

Also, the drive from Bryce to the North Rim will take a big piece of your day.

I'm not sure where it is in relation to where you'll be, but Arches National Park is wonderful. Also, in between Zion and the north rim in Canyonlands. I could spend a full day there easily.
