Please excuse the science teacher. They are a type of crustacean (so technically not a bug or a beetle, which are insects) in Order Isopoda -called isopods as well as the other common names referred to by earlier posters. So while I said they are not bugs many people classify them as creepycrawlers which is easily translated into Science-ish.
And yes since I can identify it without my glasses it is a good photo.
