Are you using a card reader or a USB cable? Whichever you are using, try the other. Then try another computer.
Does it work in the camera? - Might be the reader.
Do other cards work on this PC? - Might be a bad card.
Windows Vista, 7, and 8 prefer to sleep rather than reboot. Try an actual shutdown, power off and restart. Sleep and hibernate just ain't the same.
If you aren't sure, this line at a command prompt will actually reboot a Windows machine: shutdown -r -t 0 (That is a zero at the end, not an o).
If an actual reboot doesn't do the trick, and further if the card works in the camera or on another PC, it could be the card reader or cable. If the reader is built into your machine, make sure everything is updated, including the PC manufacturer's drivers.
Have you recently done any updates to your PC? Have you tried rebooting?
Go to the manufacturers website and downloaded replacement drivers then run them.

tried the reboot .....no luck, I'm assuming it's not the card itself because my printer has a card reader and it worked in that..... haven't tried to download driver replacement yet...oh and I use the card reader on the computer.....thanks

So the printer reads the card, and the card reader on the computer doesn't. Is that a built-in card reader on the computer? Do you have a plug-in reader to try?

I added something for my phone which totaled my card reader driver. Reinstalling it from the manufacturers website fixed it.
I had the same problem about a year ago. Card worked in camera and printer but not in built in to the computer card reader, yes it was the built in card reader. Cheapest way to get around this problem is to buy a USB plug in card reader. Hope it works...............Mike
