Great article.

Why is it you are 'allowed' to modify your computer, laptop or notebook, but not your tablet or phone?

I wonder then if you install a custom ROM bypassing the phone companies copyrighted software if you are still under threat from this law.

Actually, you do not own the operating system on your computer. You purchase a license to use it on a specific machine. You do not own Adobe Photoshop either. The list goes on. This is a fairly common way of doing business these days.

Hey Doc ..... incorrect ..... if you purchase PS the info is yours, there is nothing they could do to shut it down because you already have the program ..... not so with a cell phone as long as it's still activated .....

Try reading the Adobe license agreement before responding:

About Adobe

Adobe product license agreements

Legal notice:

"Adobe products are not sold; rather, copies of Adobe products, including Macromedia branded products, are licensed all the way through the distribution channel to the end user. UNLESS YOU HAVE ANOTHER AGREEMENT DIRECTLY WITH ADOBE THAT CONTROLS AND ALTERS YOUR USE OR DISTRIBUTION OF THE ADOBE PRODUCTS, THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE APPLICABLE LICENSE AGREEMENTS BELOW APPLY TO YOU. Please read the agreements applicable for the products you want to use. Some software is distributed together as a collection. Please be careful to read the agreement for the software you want to use.

You can access the product license in AdobeĀ® Portable Document Format (PDF) by clicking the version number for the appropriate product(s) below. For your convenience, when available, we have provided you with a selection of languages in which to review the product license. You will need to download Adobe ReaderĀ® software, if it is not already installed on your computer, to view and print the license agreements."

Hey Doc ..... not even 3 months ago I loaded my Elements onto a friends Laptop ..... worked fine when I left him, I'd have heard from him if it didn't continue to work .....

I posted the first couple of paragraphs of their agreement. They have used that same agreement since day one for all of their products.

You can reload or reinstall about once every six months without tripping any alarms. However, the fact that you are violating the agreement and haven't been caught doesn't make it legal, ethical, or right.

Bootlegging is common around the globe, it happens with movies, music and computer software regularly. I must admit that I find it interesting that one who participates in this illegal and unethical activity would boast about it.
