I read about focus stacking here so I decided to download the free trial of the Helicon Focus software and try it out. I have found it's not as easy as it seems there is a lot to the set up. It's a total of six shots and I was using my 18-55 lens with a 28mm extension tube attached.

The final result is first and a couple of the six i used to create it.

Not all that bad. The first time I tried focus stacking, I used a similar subject and I only took 3 photos and I used cs6 to do the stacking. It turned out fantastic. I did a few more and they were all good. I even did one using a yard stick and 12 photos. That took a while. It turned out real good though. I stopped stacking after that. Lol.

Thanks, I think it's something that I would use once in awhile, it requires a lot of time and patience to get something worth while. I have been doing it all day long just for about 3 somewhat decent pictures. Maybe I will get better as I practice but I can still only see it for limited subjects.

Yeah, it was fun to do. I think I just got lucky with my first attempts. This is why I am not pushing my luck! lol. You would also be surprised how much this technique actually comes in handy. There are plenty of my own photos that would have benefited by doing this; and I am not just talking flowers either.

I saw a focus rail at the camera shop the other day. They wanted a buck and a quarter for it. It wasn't that big.

It is interesting I think. I have had to push myself to learn some new things especially on the set up side of photography

I have read up on it and I think landscape would be fun with it so you can get that sharp close range framing of a sharp background as well.

Sounds like a deal you should have grabbed it I just looked at them on line and they run about 65 dollars or so.
