#1 - Picture of the Week - AvWeb (daily e-newsletter for aviation info) (first two pics) Here is the link to the 9/29/11 issue it was in:

http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/potw/PictureOfTheWeek_205483-1.html

I've had, maybe 1/2 a dozen other of my plane pics in various editions of AvWeb, but none as winners (elsewhere in the weekly filmstrips)

#2 Picture of the Month EAA.org e-mag (Experimental Aircraft Association June 2012 wallpaper. First pic is original, second is as it appeared in the e-mag (but printed, with the pilot's autograph, framed, and hung on my wall.) The "real" e-mag pic can be found at:

http://www.eaa.org/wallpaper and look for June 2012. Both pics were taken at the same airshow (week-long convention in Oshkosh, WI)

Original (at least the PP'd version)

Thanks. Hopefully one of my shots will appear in print someday. I'm going to be ordering a new lens (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/728341-REG/Tamron_AFA005C700_SP_70_300mm_f_4_5_6_Di.html) within the next 4 days (rebate deadline) to replace my kit long zoom, which should help me take better pics and I'm considering taking a course at my local Jr. college. It'll be my first more-or-less premium lens and it's what I can afford at this time. I've never used a Tamron (it's gotten decent reviews, though) or bought from B+H. I hope I'll be happy with them.

Great shots! At the risk of sounding ignorant. What is the vapor coming off of the first plane?

Condensation of the air as the plane approaches the speed of sound. It most often happens when the air is humid, I suppose. Aircraft (except the military in an emergency) are not allowed to break the sound barrier over land. The F-18 was probably doing .95 mach or so. In the original pic, I barely got the guy in the frame, so it's a rather heavy crop as you can see. I ordered my lens this morning...I hope I get it by the end of the week, but it might be next week..."up to 6 business days" to deliver.

It took me forever to figure out how to find this original file, and redo it after saving a copy of teh PP'd one.
