Can anyone identify this bird? I couldn't find the photo in the earlier post argggggg but I have now found it. I only had 24-105 lens available to take the shot so I couldn't get a tight shot.
thanks in adavance

Well ... its not a "red bird" (Cardinal), its an American Robin. Looks like its in an apple tree (?).

I knew it wasn't a cardinal but I had never seen one of these. I am just north of Austin tx & I never see cardinals here. I'm not sure about the tree but its not an apple tree. It just perched there for over an hour. Wonder if someone's pet escaped.

After studying your pics more closely, I retract my ID being an American Robin. The beak isn't right. I'm not sure what this bird is, but it isn't a cardinal, too much black on the wings. I hope someone can come up with an accurate ID for you. -- Gene

Thank you Gene, being originally from New Orleans I miss seeing cardinals. THe only birds I usually see here are doves, sparrows, blu jays & humming birds. You can imagine my excitement when I saw this beautiful bird. Again thank you

It has to be a male cardinal. Take a look at the last picture on my first post.

Thank you, I couldn't get a view of the top or back of his head. He never moved, just stayed perched without movement .

The pictured bird is a Northern Cardinal. I don't think the wings are that black, more a result of the shadow effect in the photo. Cardinals are considered "year round" residents for the entire state of Texas.

Thank you bhowdy, my wife said she got a good look at it yesterday & it had the point on the top of its head. In the 12 years we've lived in our home this is the 1st time we have ever seen one.
