Why "five shots"? Is the final image a focus-stack, or an HDR?

I have the same questions as Nikonian. Other comment would be to get closer. The other stuff in the room is distracting: compose/crop for the three blooms.

Hi, the final image is a focus-stack. I was going for a softer around the edges look, Because I'm playing with my new camera. Same goes for the depth of field created with the room showing. Can't learn if you don't play, and ask for advice. I'm having a hard time with the learning curve with this camera.

Also played with Seective Color....

Hi Jen :-) I like the shot but my question would be, why not get someone to hold something behind it to cut out the distractions in the background..ps: what sort of new camera have you got, maybe members could give you more help..

Very true!I have a big piece of board that I painted black that I use when I'm at home.I was visiting my parents...but I bought myself flowers on the way home!!

For the last 2 1/2 years I've been shooting with a glorified P&S Fuji.I just got a Canon SX40 HS (Swamp Gator recommended it as a good next step) .I'm having a hard time adjusting to the difference in M.I keep re-reading the manual...but I do so much better hands on.From advice from my friends here.

Here's an example of my old camera.

Hi what fstop were you using. If you are focus stacking try using f4 to blur the background more. Good luck with your new camera.

Jennifer: I have a piece of black velvet cloth that I can fold and take with me. You can tape/tack/drape it to cover distracting backgrounds. If the plants are potted, you can move them to a more natural setting...
