Shower curtain Lastolite Hilite...it works!

I was contemplating getting a Lastolite Hilite background (it lights up from inside via strobes or speedlights) and so while I was waiting, I bought a shower curtain liner from Wal Mart to see if shooting a speedlight through it from behind would work also....and lo and behold...it did!

I ended up using two speedlights to light it so it would be even coverage.

I have yet to see if I can attach a second shower curtain to the bottom for full length shots, and make a PVC frame for it, but that's next on the agenda.

It doesn't appear that there was a lot of spill or anything, even though I have a 2 foot gap at the bottom and the side is completely open.

See the set up shot and the final product.

Oh no. I thought you agreed to get a model for your testing. Certainly works well for head shots- looks really great except of course for, well, I won't say it, don't want to hurt your feelings again. :)

Lol...no harm done...yet :)

My plan is to velcro another curtain below it and make a "seamless" transition that you can get a full length portrait out of....

Thanks!

Now I have to go to Lowes and get the PVC for the frame, and get a few pieces of white reflective tile board to stand on...and connect it with the other shower curtain that I bought...then I can take full length portraits on full white seamless.

Now that is even a better idea!. You could even velcro it to your wall. I think I see tape, right. I will have to try this my fabric backdrop set up. You could get different colors too!

Yes...I just taped it up for now...just to test.

But you don't need different colors...you just gel your speedlights and make whatever color you want!

You can even make grey just by making sure that the exposure of the background speedlights is lower than the main light and the camera exposure.

Nice!! I have been looking for back grounds for the little studio I made in the basement. I got kicked out of the living room.:) Are you going to use the shower hooks to hook it to the pipe?
They make some great glue I used to put some traps together for camping. It has been 5 years and they are still holding. Got it at TSC.
I have been playing with bending a pipe to go in the corner of my studio. I made it in a corner of the basement, now I can get it done.:) Thanks!

Nope...I'm going to velcro it to the pipe.

I even saw Michael Zebel do this with a kitchen cabinet..he opened the cabinet, put the speed light on a shelf, and put the shower curtain over the cabinet and made it into a big softbox...

I like this as well!
How much space is between the speedlights and white curtain?
Where the speedlights together or spaced apart? If apart, how far apart? Vertical or horizontal?
Thanks!
Pat

Speedlights cross pattern to try and cover and due to space...they were about a foot from the curtain. They were about 4 feet high.
