I know it is lacking in many ways but was certainly exciting to be able to capture it with a Tamron AF 28-300 without tracking and in under 15-20 minutes of work. I was not aware there was a good seeing night when I was made aware of it, so I grabbed all the essentials, but did not get my tracking device. Not even sure I could be able to point the lens to the nebula since my camera (T2i) does not have an articulated screen.
T2i
FNumber: 5.6
Exposure Time: 1 sec/ea of several photos (5-6)
Focal Length: 270
ISO Speed Ratings: 6400
Software Lynkeos (Mac) to stack (I am not very good at this) I see no difference form originals and stacked image.
Camera was mounted on sturdy Manfrotto tripod and head. Used 2 sec external timer to trigger.
Trying to get a better one with some additional accessories soon. If weather permits.

Pretty cool. I want to get into astrophotography too. Keep posting as you get more images.
Nice shot. Can start to see some color in the nebula.
yes, very good. M42 / M43 . Also - try 3 seconds using ISO 800. possibly go to 4 or so on your "F" stop
keep playing - it is so worth it !
I am starting to focus on M42 with a 300mm and I will probably use it from 200-300 and will start using tracking soon. I have acquired photographic equipment with an aim in astrophotography.
I am about to process a session I had last night with tracking so I hope that that outcome is better. In the meantime, I will post something I did with a 50mm last night also. I had two cameras shooting and I think the zoomed version from the 50mm is better- considering the lens reach. Will include in this post.
NEX 5n, 1.3 secs, f not registered, probably 5.6, ISO 3200
Taken with NEX 5N and Minolta f/2 50mm lens with adapter
oh man ! that is just a great photo ! The brush/bush just make you look harder and look around to find more . And it's pictures like this that make it fun .
I photographed this through the branches of a weeping willow, the constellation was up high around 10-11pm, camera almost vertical.
