Electric Bees?

Scientists in Bristol, England have discovered another way that flowers attrract bees. Flowers have a slight negative charge, and bees develop a positive charge from flying. When a bee gets close to a flower, the natural attraction helps to bring it in. See your next issue of Science magazine for more details.

So this pesticide kills bees, but it's good for the giant farms, right? So what's the problem? Profit is profit. Look how long it took to get DDT banned from the US market.

Germany has banned the product it is making and exporting but the USA hasn't? That makes sense. Profit is the magic word.

You might remember that years ago, an American company was condemned for exporting baby formula to third world countries. The formula was not allowed to be sold in this country, but it was OK to export it.

The love of money(or profit) is indeed the root of all evil. It likely will also be responsible for the end of our society as we know it and the end of the earth as we know it. People cannot keep on poisoning the air, the water, and the soil for profit without experiencing the effects. And it is patently clear that too many of us simply don't give a damn. We will pay and pay dearly.

Jerry, Thanks for the info. I must be behind the times. Been a beekeeper for 35 years, and didn't know that. Appreciate the info. BTW miss the beaver kill , mongaup, and all the other streams in the Catskills . Learned to fly fish there. Camped there too many times to remember. Relatives on hunter lake. Henry

Please, capitalize Beaver Kill. Otherwise, people will think it is some sort on annual event. :D

"Kill" is the Dutch term for a stream, so that's why "kill" is used so muchin this area - early Dutch settlers. In the 46 years I've lived here, I've never skiied, and I fished here only once.

Perhaps you should read up on DDT...it was banned after Rachel Carson wrote "Silent spring" in the 60's and it has since been proven she was using false data. Her incorrect conclusions sold a lot of books but also killed millions of people as DDT at the time was our only defence against mosquitos that carried Malaria. The loss of the use of the chemical also caused famine in Africa and many more died. Just because you read something in a book doesn't make it right,

Everything source I've just read online confirms that DDT was bad for birds, fish, and people, but insects developed an immunity to it. It took years of scientific investigation before its use was banned. Then the bird populations started to recover, eagles included.

I was living in Nassau County, NY when they attempted to ban the use of DDT in about 1960, although I just found out about it now in searching for articles.
