What do you think?

I am interested in what people think about the latest trend to produce 3D effects. Is this really acceptable internal camera wizardry; or one step to far in Photoshop? Camera magazines have been promoting all types of effects for the last couple of years.

Should these more specialized effects not appear in the photo gallery under general photography; rather than here under ‘Close up’ imagery?

I am only bring this up so that the site management can comment.

This is a good point to raise and I must say I was thinking about the same thing i.e. What is photography these days.

I have seen new posts which in my opinion are not what I consider to be Photography in the traiditional sense. but more as graphic art which could be produced via computer without a camera.

It could be argued that a camera is itself a computer, so what's the problem. My latest camera has various effects such as "Line Art" which with a turn of the settings button produces pictures of the scene and turns it into Line drawings.which are not true representations of the subject as viewed through my own eyes at the time of taking the photograph.

I originally had this problem with HDR photographs and which is why through personal choice I dont employ this effect. We have to accept that photographs have always been manipulated e.g. In darkrooms etc, Even Ansell Adams played around with his images.

My conclusion would be at this time: If I take a photograph and from it produce a picture that is pleasing to MY eye, then that is what photography for me is all about, being creative, informative, story telling, pleasing ourselves and others.

The only thing I may insist on is that the original shot was produced by ourselve with our cameras. As photography changes we all will have views on what makes a photograph and as such comment in that context..

Good Post it will be interesting to see what other members think...who knows I may change my mind entirely .. :-)

I like your answer very much! Seeing as how I sparked this question, I'll throw my 2 cents in for what it's worth. I spend most of my time on the Special Effect Challenge. The images I choose to work on are the best of the best. I spend hours working on a photo to bring out the image in my head, not to hide defects in the original.

The Bubble post made recently was almost just as shot. My camera doesn't have 3D capability. As a matter of fact, I took that shot with a glorified P&S. All I did to it was give it some vibrance and a frame.

I am really happy to find this section because 80% of my work is close-up. I hope everyone here can accept that I play with my pics as a form of art.

Hi Jennifer :-) Thankyou for responding. Someone had to submit a photograph that raised this question and it was you..lol..

We knew this would come up sooner or later so now we have to reach a concensus on this. I liken this to Traditional and New Age. I think if the members are able to discern between the two and comment accordingly there will be no problems.

Thanks again for the evil bee I loved it...kindest regards :-)
