Promised I'd post a few shots from my first tennis match assignment. Never tried this before and I had to shoot this event for the local weekly paper so I read a few tips from the pros and here is some results. Comments and Recomendations welcome.

How did you get started with the paper? Sounds like fun and something I would love to do too!

Weekly papers have no budget for staff photographers so they mostly hire free lance. I specilize in Pets and sports, so one day I just went in to one of the weeklys here in my hometown and talked to the sports writer for that paper. This particular publication FORCES the writers take photos which they do not like to do (and are not very good at). I got to be friends with this particular writer who has a good reputation in the Tampa area and is well connected within the community. He has since moved to another local publication who does hire free lance photographers on a as needed basis. I offered the editor to shoot a basketball game for no charge for an audition and sample of my work. She liked the results and started to assign me 1 or 2 different games per week. Now I am shooting all sorts of sports and get 3 to 5 assignments per week. She called me yesterday while I was shooting NASCAR at Daytona to book Friday for an afternoon Special Olympics event and also a Varsity Baseball game in the evening. Through that same sports writer I now also cover Sports for another publication from the other side of the county when those teams come to my area.
