The pics do not give this fly perspective, he was much larger and thinner than most that I come across...

He wouldn't hold still, but he was at least twice as long as the regular long legged flies that I usually see..

Looks like you shot him resting on a car? No idea as to what genus either....Nice shots though...Maybe put the image out on bugguide.net for an ID...

Actually the red is flare which I did not expect to see because I was not using tubes... but upon closer inspection of my rig I had the flash forward of the front of the lens.... all self inflicted.

No, I did not submit it, I do not think that those pics fairly represent the fly, I know that it is a long legged fly, just not which one, there are several species that are simply called long legged flies, If I another one maybe I can get some better pics if so I will consider submitting.

We have those down here also. Like you said about twice the size. Hey the kids have a 2 week spring break coming up. We'll hit the lake for some camping. Invitation still open for the Jumping spider safari and I have a honey hole for these long legged flies, not to mention your other favorite the Hover Fly. Also one of my Rookeries is filling up with nesting birds with all their bright breeding colors. Gotta do this before it gets to hot.
