I just finished playing with my friend's D7100!
This is a final evaluation release model that reportedly will be exactly like what is shipped in a few weeks except for a few possible tweaks to the ROM.
Now I'm a longtime Canon and Pentax guy, so I'm usually jaded when it comes to things Nikon, but I ended up very impressed with this camera after just 2 hours.
I must admit, I was comfortable shooting with it and the images (most snow and sheet falling outside...) were impressive. I'm not about to abandon ship, but I was envious...
I didn't learn anything new that has not already been published, and I promised not to share any images, but it was fun playing with it.
For those waiting to see the D7100 (supposed to be in dealer's hands by first week in April), I think you will be impressed with what you get for less than $1,200 (body only).
Suddenly my Canon 7D and 5DMkIII seem heavy and dated. But I'll get over it.
Welcome to the world of electronics where what is new today is obsolete tomorrow. I try to make a point not to look at other peoples new cameras, min my mind...the grass is always greener on the other side of the hill. I know what you mean though, the D7000 was one hell of a camera, I can imagine what the D7100 is like.
I have the d7000 and am totally satisfied with it but like the previous post you always wonder if the grass is greener on the other side.
How did you get your )or his) hands on a camera that isn't even available yet? He must have a good connection to have received one of the 10 admitted evaluative models sent to the US. (And sworn to secrecy under penalty of stoning by Canons!) I am envious!

Di you know that if you don't use Canon you are political incorrect by Canons!
I have a friend in china that work for a camera manufacture and they are testing a talking camera for the next year. When you are in manual if you set wrong , the camera say you ;what you have to correct onless you tell the camera that is art photo what are you seting.

I can just picture the scene of a man and his camera having an argument while trying to get pictures of his vacation. Better yet, combine the camera with talking GPS, and the camera can tell you how to get where you want to go. To avoid embarrassment while being seen talking to your camera, it would have to include Bluetooth, so you could wear a Bluetooth earpiece and communicate that way.

All that and more is already here.
The new Google Glass product is an amazing piece of technology that is scary.
It even allows me to walk up to a perfect stranger and it can identify them via Google's impressive facial recognition program.
Scary stuff. Supposed to be widely available in 2014.

Yeah, it can take pictures and video on verbal commands too. I wonder if it can perform a bracketed HDR sequence or control a wireless strobe set up? Maybe even make coffee.

"Candi, give me a picture of that building with overcast exposure. Correct for tilt and skew. Don't use the filter on this one. Oh, and give me a second shot in sepia. Execute."
"Siri, stop saying things like that; you are just jealous of Candi."
On one hand the techie in me wants one,
on the other, I'm not sure I'm ready to live in a world so controlled and automated.
It's a real conundrum, but I'm no Luddite, so I'll probably buy a Google Glass as soon as they are released.
