Dozens of these little birds come by early mornings (just to tease our two house cats, I think). Any idea what they are? Slightly soft--shot through window. Locale is Central Florida.
American Goldfinch? Google has some images of "adult non-breeding male" that seem to be same + says Florida is one place they winter-over (and don't breed).
Thanks OoF and 2dogz. Thought they looked kinda fat for being finches.
I'm surprised you have them in Florida. Is that snow or sand on the ground? Flocks of these finches hang around our feeders here in NS in the winter and gradually turn brighter and brighter yellow.
Sand, sand and more sand. It's like living on a beach here. I saw a bright yellow one yesterday but he wasn't around when I had the camera out.
They look like Female Evening Grosbeaks
We have the Goldfinches in NC, can't wait for them to return.
Gold finches! Males, they will get golder and golder as spring approaches! Love these beautiful guys! Get a finch feeder and they Gather near for an open spot! ....and eat you out of house and home!
I too would guess at the American Goldfinch, in winter color, and they do overwinter in Florida.
