Went out to practice with my new T3i, and captured some photos in a slough off the Red River in Shreveport, LA. These were taken at a local park. I would like to know first of all about the overall perception (good, bad, etc, etc.) of the originals (disregard the first original, cause I had the SS set to 1/2500). Secondly have I overdone the editing? Sometimes I just don't know when to stop. Thanks in advance.

other than the 1st being too dark, they all look good on my screen
By far I'm not a pro, but I like them all.
Not to sure what you were trying to do but the first is to dark and in the following pictures was made viewable I guess that the exposure in the camera would be the first place to fix what it is that you shot ... I think that we have as a whole depended on PP no matter what the program ... remember the days of film there we had to have it almost perfect and the cameras we use today have the delete button or as even myself I have a PP program that can make it right.

I saw that the first picture was really dark and mentioned that in my post. What I am really wondering is how well have I set up the camera, and the composition, in the 2nd original, and do the edits appear to be OK, and not all blown out or "over cooked". I am trying to see what I need to work on. Thanks for posting.
Here is the last photo. It is the edited version, please don't ask where the original went because I would have to embarrass myself with the answer.
one more EDITED photo
Well as to your pictures they are alright but as with anything we learn as we go and the mistakes are also a learning faze hopefully for the better but as I have found out over the years some open a door into a new way of doing things that they the ones who wrote the book don't know about you have a great start and with that new camera I am sure that in the future we are going to see some really nice pictures. I guess I had a few years with the old manuals with film so to me it comes a bit easier that to others but I think if you can get it right in the camera first then use PP to make it the way that is eye appealing. Well good luck in the future and keep up the good hard work.

Yes, I noticed that right after I uploaded it. So many things to remember, but that stands out like a sore thumb, can't believe I missed that. I have added a band aid on the right side of my photo to keep the water from flowing out of the photo and onto my desk, if you need one also let me know and I will email one to you post haste, or for those on the left coast, "lickity-split"
