Pretty girl. These are lot better than what I can do but they seem to be way over exposed. Was this intentional? Inquiring minds want to know.

These were shot intentionally as Hi-Key images. The main light, camera left, was a 1m squre softbox exposure at around f11 as I recall, the fill light, camera right was a honey combed beauty dish about on stop less. I used a speedlight through a home made snoot as a hair light.

Alice's make up was created to accentuate the Hi-Key effect plus I helped it all along in CS6.

Thanks for the kind words, I hope this helps a little.

Glad to help. It always helps if you can get a make up artist who understands what will work for Hi-Key AND for your model. Naturally blondes are better.

I always use a flash meter to get my exposure right initially then monitor what the in-camera histogram is giving me. It is easy to over expose and totally blow out highlights so checking the histogram is a must. Even Adobe Camera RAW cannot rescue badly over exposed highlights.

If you down load the images here and go to File>File Info>camera data you will see precisely what the exposures that I used were.

Unfortunately, I am not to the point of hiring a make up artist or even a model. I have to use victims that are around me at the time. The good thing is that for me, I have yet to go too bright on any portraiture that I have done. Any adjustments I have made in either lightroom or cs6 have been minimal so far. Some of them or acceptable.

Be like me and do it on the cheap, contact your local beauty salons with an offer to photograph the work of their juniors/students in exchange for them making up a female friend [theirs or yours] or even a second student/colleague.

You get the shoot, they get the practice and hopefully some images for their Facebook page or even a few prints for their book.

Nice job. Hi Key images are popular and a friend of mine is trying to show me how to do it. I still don't have the hang of it.

I just happen to have a daughter in beauty school right now. Interesting.

Keep at it the rewards will come, at least that is what people tell me. I am still learning my new camera and I've had it for 6 months.

The main thing is to enjoy.

Nice photos. I have never done any high key photos, but would like to. I'm heading over to the local beauty solons to try to get a few models. Thanks for the info. I will give it a try. I really like the "high key" look.
