Excellent start! All three are keepers.

You asked: "Inkberries - should I crop at the top?"
Either way is fine: I like the open space, as is. Or you can try a square crop, losing a bit of top & bottom.

Thank you both for the encouragement. I was really happy with these until someone said my lens has a soft spot and I had no clue about that or what to do about it. I thought the softness was the idea!!? Those were literally taken (a few years ago) right after I took my lens out of the box on my way home from work. I think I might be losing some joy anticipating the views of others. I'll have to work on that.

Also, N72, I checked out your 500px site and am debating about whether to post photos. Any advice would be appreciated.

I believe a Flickr page is the best way to start publicly displaying one's images.
I post way more images to my Flickr page, than to my 500px page.

The ornamental grasses are really intricate - so I discoverd. I haven't printed this one out - but I might. Thanks a lot.

Excellent set. Love the third one and the 2nd is pretty good. One suggestion for #2: if you stay parallel to the stamens, you will maintain DOF from top to bottom. DOF is very shallow with macro. If you notice, these are sharp in the middle, but OOF as you reach the top.

Keep 'em coming!

by parallel - is that to say the lens should remain parallel to the stamens-or whatever s/b in focus? Thank you for the pointer. Keeping this in mind, I can see that is why you favor#3. Is that correct?

Yes. The idea is to keep whatever you want in focus within the narrow DOF.
