It must be age. I skied for over 40 years but I will trade the white stuff on the ground for these in a heartbeat.

Yes but, Lancaster (Lan-kiss-ter) County is in the banana belt, hiding behind the mountains and catching all the Atlantic breeze that it can. The Amish farmers are just getting their teams in shape before the real work starts. It is a little surprising that they are turning the soil already though. Must have gotten the word that Paunx. Phil saw his shadow.  Originally from Pittsburgh and was stationed in Harrisburg (Middletown) many moons ago now.

Thanks for the comments on the pic.

Thanks Macro... They are calling for more snow here tomorrow. Grrrr. I think I know why so many retired people move to warmer climates.

Maybe it is because they know me Robbie, but our garden centers have never said a word about me dragging my camera along. Then too, I take some pictures of purchased items over to them from time to time, so that they can see how their items have been used. Maybe they realize that if they 'cut me off', I might 'cut them off' and find another supplier.

First a disclaimer..... These are not classed as close-ups.... But a response to a comment.

The Amish own two classes of horses. The ones they use to pull their buggies are sleek, beautiful animals, and whether they will admit it or not, are a status symbol. You just do not see any shabby, glue factory ready animals on a buggy.

The other class, and just as beautiful in their own right, are the draft horses. They may not be as lean and stylish as the buggy horses, but are just as well cared for and valued (maybe even more) because of their need on the farm. l

We were back in Lancaster Co right after Hurricane Irene in the fall of 2012. We didn't see any field work going on at the time (quite wet yet) but I did get one shot (be it from the rear) of a team of horses. These are not the biggest, but still big and beautiful animals.

All were shot with my Canon S5IS.

I might add.... Do a search on UHH for Amish and look at Kerryann's photos. She lived in Central Pa at the time around the Yellow Buggy Amish.
