Has anyone had any experience with the Canon 18-55 F3.5-5.6 EF-S IS lenses? They must be older models and slow as I have noticed that there are a number of them on the market at less than $100 (mostly $79-89 used or refurbished).
They were mostly sold as the basic kit lens with all the T1 thru T4i series of bodies, as well as a few others. Most buyers eventually move up to better quality lenses and sell these kit lenses off after awhile. Nikons 18-55mm VR kit lens is much the same way, tons of them out there for under $100.
Thanks Shooter. Good info.
I have that lens with macro. It came with my Canon Rebel EOS T2i. I have had great results with it, a reliable hand held combo and great when used on a tripod with manual focus.
Good Luck
Thanks for the input. So cheap, may give it a try until I can afford better glass.

It's the most common lens made.

I believe there is a 'new' version of he 18-55 kit lens, designated with a "II" as part of the description. It has an updated IS system, and is thought to be far better quality than the original 18-55 lens from about pre-2010.
Thanks. That is the one I have been looking at.
I have this lens and don't use it any more. If you are interested, make me a reasonable offer and it is yours. It is in excellent condition. with both caps, a lens hood and UV filter.
As MT Shooter said, it is a kit lens, and I upgraded shortly after getting it with my T1i.
Thanks but I feel like a fool. Looking back through my bag I found that I already had the lens which came with my camera. I did not realize that it was considered a "super wide-angle". Have not had a use for it up until now as I have been mostly concentrating on telephoto shots with my 70-300mm. Going on a trip to Panama and Costa Rica in March so may give it a try out.
Yes, at 18mm that is a wide angle, and a decent lens for many situations. Have a great trip!
