This will be our 4th year of selling photos at craft fairs and flea markets. I stared out at a small Farmer's Market selling barn and rooster photos. I went "out of the box" to start. The 1st year we set up at one of the largest flea markets in Minnesota. It went well and we did the other two shows the 1st year(our 4th year there). It took us about the first year and a half to show a profit. Now going into our 4th year I have 29 "shows" scheduled for this year. Our 1st year was just the Farmer's Market and the flea market. With that many shows it is easy to have $500-600 paid in advance for fees. It has been very fun and very rewarding.
For those of you who are wondering about trying this venue, be aware of your cost for fees, inventory, your time and mileage to the events.
With the different areas we set up at, there seems to be a following for each area.
If anyone is looking for more information you are welcome to send me a private message.
Lots of luck to my fellow photographers.

She is a bit tireing but great info, thanks for the link
I have been selling at art fairs for the past year and a half. I did 12 shows last year, and I'm aiming for about 15 this year. At this point that seems like a reasonable number. Between jury fees and ever increasing booth fees, applying to more would create a pretty big cash follow problem. Our first show of the year will be next weekend, but I already have about $3K out in fees for the seven shows I've been juried into so far!
The festival circuit can be profitable, but it does take much more work, time, and initial capital outlay than most people would expect.
Deborah Gilbert's lecture is pretty accurate on most points.
