Someone at work is selling a Nikon d90 and a bunch of lenses. I am looking for a backup body and the d90 might do the job. Is this a fair deal?

Nikon AFS 18-135 mm lens
Nikon AFS 40-135 mm lens
Nikon AFS 55-200 mm lens
Nikon AFS 75-300 mm lens
Sigma DC HSM 10-20 mm lens
Lowe Pro Camera Bag
Battery Charger
Cords
Manual

$1500 CAD

Or should I go for a brand new body either a d3200 or d5200

check sites such as adorama, b&h, ebay to see what each is worth as used. also, condition will affect price. what is shutter count? these questions need answered.

A new D90 body only is $860ish. I have one that I use for my main camera and it was 1300 new when I bought it a few years ago. It is an awesome camera for the price. Check out the prices of the lens from there. I know the 55-200 is a kit lens (that's what I got) and I've seen the 70-300 available in new package deals. Ask for the shutter count, if that is reasonable and the Other lenses are nice Nikkor (Nikon brand lens), then offer 1000 and haggle from there. But from what you ask, it isn't a steal of a deal.

I never saw a Nikon 40-135mm lens, You might be wrong on that one The 18-135 Nikon and the Sigma 10-20 are good (I have the Tamron wide angle, and cost around $500 each new,, the Other two cost about $200 each new. So you got $1400 in glass and $850 in Camera or about $2250 new.

i only buy new when buying any camera body..check out the shutter count ..if the one you are purchasing was hardly ever used then i would consider it along with the lenses but i hesitate before purchasing used ...for a few bucks more i would save up and get new also for the warranties ..think about it .

A friend just purchased a new D7000 with the 18-135mm for just over $900. The D7000 is a far superior camera to the D90. Then you'd have $600 left over for another lens. Personally, that's what I would do. Also, Nikon is coming out with a new high end Dx camera (replacement for the discontinued D7000) within the next couple of months. It's likely to be priced around $1,100 - $1,500 and may include a lens. You might want to wait to see what deals are available then.

I already have a d7000 and various lenses. The d90 would be for my dad. In looking around the d3200 may be a better fit for him.
