Well, my JY670 finally arrived. Very easy to set up-just have to fine tune a bit yet. It's been raining here so haven't had much of chance to find any critters yet. These are all D3100 with Tamron 90mm. The flash was set on 1/64.
The green thing is the end of a grape tendril (about 1/32" diam.). The flower is 1/2" across. The broken twig is about 3/16" diam. Have included a pic of the flash. I know these are pretty ordinary but the next ones will be better.

Your curled tendril looks pretty good, because you have kept the subject within the flat DoF. You can see that your broken twig spike exceeds the DoF, as does the lower right petal of your flower.
The best advice I can offer is to be aware of your best focal plane, and keep it within your DoF.
And practice, practice, practice.
