That is funny. I have a cat that looks just like that one that does the same thing. Only, if the knocking doesn't work, he'll start running his claws down the glass! THAT gets too me as it is just like running fingernails down a chalkboard!

now THAT is one smart little bugger! I'll just bet that the owner is GLAD that he hasn't figured out about the claws on the glass! our outdoor ones do the claws on the metal screen door when they want fed... has the same effect - like fingernails on a chalkboard!
