I am always amazed (maybe I shouldn't be) at the amount of knowledge passed on to members here at UHH. The cost of such knowledge would be immeasureable if you were trying to get it from a school, college etc.

Most of us gained our knowledge in a similar fashion and well remember our gratitude to our mentors. Passing it on to others is our way of saying thanks to them.

I was a professor for 40+ years, but now truly believe the internet is a much better place to learn than any college or university. But it only works if you want to learn just like the university. What the Ph.D. teaches is do not rely on asking questions. Seek the answers, they are out there. That does not mean don't engage in dialogue. It means save the tuition money; buy good lenses. I use UHH for a ton of learning--and for teaching because I cannot get that out of my system. But its now free.

I learned while teaching a basic photo course to adults on Long Island that the best way to learn is to commit to teach others.

As on the whole internet, there is really great stuff on UHH and there is also some total rubbish (fortunately not too much of the latter), with most information somewhere between. The skill is to critically examine the information given, see if it makes sense and also if it is backed up by other sources.
But I agree, a big thank you to those who put their hard-earned knowledge there for us.
