This won't mean much to my non European friends......

Due to the unreliability of imported processed meat coming into the UK, Tesco, in conjunction with Findus , are importing all their beef for burgers, lasagne and spaghetti bolognaise alive and on the hoof.
:-) :D :)

Here comes the beef!

PS. I took this copy from a photograph in the War Museum in Narvik. The German occupation was extremely hard for them and lasted from April 1940 -May 1945. I think this shot is pre invasion when the allies were trying to stop the axis army.

Go to Belgium and order 'Steak American' and see what you'll get.

We are acting as though we are being fed poison. I accept that horse meat should more be being sold was beef, but on the continent horse meat is normal on their tables. It certainly won't kill you, and unless it contains the drug "bute?" it will do no harm.

As far as I am concerned this is just media hype and something to beat the government and "those foreign people" from the continent with.

Maybe this is what we needed in this country, something to get us to start eating home cooked meals and not just the ready prepared meals. Home cooked tastes much better anyway and you at least know what is in it. If you are afraid of eating beef now, stick to chicken.

We are having steak for dinner tonight, looking forward to it.

Agree with you 100% Malcolm, I've eaten horse meat and there's nothing wrong with it at all, very healthy in fact. It's been said that when Tescos were selling the beef-burgers with 60% horse meat in them, that was the healthiest ready-meal in the store! :-D :-D
I get all my beef from the local butcher [Aberdeen-Angus and Hereford X] and pig and lamb come off the farm, so I'm very lucky.
If only folk would start making their own pies, burgers mince etc. they'd save money and eat way, way better.

The best beef I've ever had was from a Jersey X Hereford from my brothers Jersey herd. Beautiful marbling and excellent texture. With the reduction in the Jersey herd nationwide I'm very unlikely to find it now. Even the Jersey Cattle Society in this part of the world seems to have died.

They used to have a job to get decent price for a finished Channel Island beast because the fat was yellowish, that was 40 years ago, yellow fat and good marbling are what the cheffy chefs like now!
It's a crying shame the Jersey herd is so small, 'course it's because the gold top milk's sooo dangerous, one drop in your tea will give you a heart attack! PAH!

Yeh, like I drank milk, both Jersey and Holstein, straight from the tank when I was farming. Not sure I am waiting for a heart attack, but by golly the Jersey had some cream on it. Usually half the jug was cream. Wonderful.

The beef in my beefburgers is travelling further than the beef John Wayne took from Texas for some distance North years back. Well, not mine, but you get the gist.
Hopefully the OCADO man will be delivering some of Waitroses' finest this evening - that or I'll be down to M&S where I can be assurred that if there is any horse in thier beefburger it won't be any old horse......

As a lifelong horse lover, I say this. Horses are on this planet to be ridden & admired. Cows are to provide meat & milk. If you guys in that part of the world are happy eating horses, so be it.

It sickens me that both the US & Australia export huge amounts of horse meat to Europe & Asia, but I won't jump on that band wagon just now.

English cooking's come on a long way in the last 10-20 years! We've got some of the best chefs in the world now, believe it or not. In the last list of the top restaurants in the world, in the top 20 were.....5 French, 4 US and 3 British.
It's the education of the young we need to sort out! There's a world-wide epidemic of fast food.
