I have a Canon Rebel XSi. I have been reading that most have the AF point selection on Spot. I can only find 2 options: Manual Selection which shows a single focal dot that I can move around or Auto Select which has numerous focal points. Is there a way to set the Spot on Auto? Yes I have looked at the manual and did not see the answer. Thanks for you help.

Hope this help -
Chapter 3, page 61 of your manual says:
In the Basic Zone (Auto)modes, all the AF points are active. Generally, the AF point covering the closest subject will be selected to focus. Therefore the camera sometimes may not focus the subject you want.
With the <P> (Program AE), <Tv>, <Av>, and <M> modes, you and select one AF point to focus where you want.
That is my question...I shoot mainly in {P} and when it is on single it says manual and the spot can be moved from point to point. Is it going to auto focus wherever the spot is indicated?

Just an opinion but I believe the best thing you can do is always shoot in
P or one of the manual settings. I've been using single point / dead center for a long time. Several focus points is useless because you're allowing the camera to make your focus decisions.
With single point, focus over say a portrait subjects eye and re-frame. That way you're making the decisions and forcing the camera to focus where you want it to.
Thanks for the advice....Think I will put it on single point dead in the center and go for it.
